FAQ
Q: What do we bring?
Scouts: See the Participant Kit List and the Sled Kit List for your patrol.
Patrols: Patrols are to be entirely self-contained. They must bring their own food (lunch, snacks), stove(s), fuel and water. (Hot water will be available for hot chocolate)
Scouters, OOS: You are to be self-contained this year, with respect to your food, snacks, water and kitchen. Exception: hot water will be available for hot chocolate)
Q: When are we supposed to arrive and depart?
Your Patrol's exact arrival and departure times will be sent to you after registration. Arrival and departure may be staggered due to limited parking availability.
Q: Can we bring a trailer?
If you have a trailer, you will be directed to a special parking area. Please contact the Registrar if you are bringing a trailer, and mention how long it is.
Q: What is the day's schedule?
Q: Will we be indoors some of the time? Is there a place to warm up?
The entire event is outdoors. There is a partially-covered palisade that will have a large fire going all the time, available should a Scout be unable to warm up. It is also where the First Aid station will be located.
Q: Is water available onsite?
No. Patrols are to bring their own 5 gallon water container, secured in their sled, and heat their own water. Hot water is available for Hot Chocolate.
Q: Are meals included?
No. Patrols are self-contained for fuel, food and water/drinks. Volunteers are to bring their own food and snacks. Patrols are to cook their meals over stoves they bring in their sled, with fuel they bring.
Q: What's the washroom/hygiene situation?
There will be outdoor kybos (portable toilets) set up for the event, and a urinal. Toilet paper and hand sanitizer will be provided, but personal hand sanitizer is also included in the personal kit list.
Q: Who/When do we pay?
Q: Why are Scouts to prepare a Song or Skit for the Derby?
To help stave off the cold, we will share songs and skits. Please select action songs or skits that involve the audience.
Q: Is there information about bringing an activity station?
Stations will be 30 minutes long, for 1 patrol of 4 to 7 Scouts. Be prepared to move any station material about 300-500m from the parking lot. More details are available here. Ideas for stations are here.
Q: How many activity stations do we bring?
Unless you've received leave otherwise from the organizing committee, your Troop is responsible to provide and staff 1 station per Patrol that is attending.

Q: Who Can Volunteer?
Anyone can volunteer as an OOS (Youth Scouters & Scouters). All Volunteers must be registered with Scouts Canada as a volunteer.
